We are aware that lately everything is really quite absurd. But one of the things that can at least reduce the noise during the virus outbreak, especially in Indonesia, is staying at home first (without neglecting the fact and with respect for friends and many people who still have to leave the house every day to earn a living, because that’s the only way, and the only one). We suggest you don’t go out if it’s not very urgent and enjoy staying at home while doing what you have to do. Maybe this is a mundane thing that we have to go through now.

Speaking of staying home, Public Culture thought of catching up with some of our friends, to ask them how they are doing and to find out what they are doing in these times.

In this edition, we talk with Kara Chenoa, a young musician from Jakarta. If you’re curious about what we’re talking about, take a look at our conversation with him.

What are you doing lately? Are you making any new music?

Lately, I’ve been looking for something to do every day. Do lots of exercises so I can sleep well, work, and try to find activities to fill my brain. For music, I’m currently working on my EP, which is scheduled to be released on July 30.

Looking at the current situation and conditions around you, what do you think and what have you done for yourself to adapt to this?

I don’t think that we need to slow down. It’s like I’m annoyed, I just don’t want to be drowned with the situation and I just learn to believe that things are gonna get better.

Do you stay at home a lot during these times? And what do you think about that?

I’m really staying at home now since I’m a “Covid alumni” (laugh). In my opinion, this is the time to take care of your health, both physically and mentally, for yourself and the people around you.

What activities do you usually do at home? Do you have any favorite things to do when you’re spending time at home?

I really enjoy working out. Since quarantine, I have become addicted to endorphins from working out. Trust me, I know I sound like a douche but exercising is a real drug.

Did you find a lot of interesting new things for you, or maybe unlock new skills, during these times?

I learned a lot about myself. From the fuss I get when I’m at home for a long time to things I just found out that I like because I never got the chance to give it time.

Do you have any advice about what people should do in their homes if sometimes they have no idea what to do? Probably some fun activities or any activities?

I guess I’m trying new things and myself anyway. It’s hard to worry about work or money for sure, it’s just that there are many other things that we sometimes forget during this pandemic.

What do you think people should do during these times?

People should do whatever they want, as long as not doing bad things or causing harm to others.

If you could choose who you could invite to spend time at home with you during a pandemic and staying home like this, who would it be and why?

My current housemates! I found a new family in this pandemic by living with friends. But if you could pick an extra person to live with, maybe Trevor Noah. So I can be up to date with the world and not be confused like that.
