We know that a great selection of music could lighten up your day, night, and everything in between. Based on that, we decided to start a monthly series of music playlists, curated by special guests and contributors around; from musicians, artists, DJs, to our beloved friends.
For this 3rd installment of Public Culture Plays, we have a special guest, Ones Hutahaean or Jones. He’s one of our longtime friends, a DJ (he have played in our two parties!), and one of the initiators behind the prolific collective in Pekanbaru, Sumatera, Semalam Saja. Started in 2017, Semalam Saja is keeping its movement going by throwing local parties to finally build “The Gallery”, an online streaming studio. With the love of wide sonic spectrum, from disco, house, acid house, disco edits, to funk, and of course, their good-vibe-well-curated shows, Semalam Saja has been gaining a lot of attention from people in the local and national scene.
In this playlist, Jones gives us his personal touch—he compiled songs from his old iTunes playlist which he used to listen for accompanying him sleeping or even on a road trip. For us, the diversity of the songs here also shows us a glimpse of Jones and Semalam Saja enthusiasm in music and why it’s the right reason to have him curated the playlist.
