In this fourth edition of PC Radio Top 5, we got the chance to discuss the inspirational things behind Jelita’s ( @jelita610 ) career as a Jakarta-based female-solo singer.
Jelita’s inspirations comes from famous figures such as Bon Iver, Miley Cyrus, Jamie Hewlett, Lorde and Archie Lee Coates IV.
BON IVER
Bon Iver – 22, A million (Album) I have yet to find an album I connect this deeply with. I listened to this album back when I was going through turbulence and listening to it now having left that turbulence adds a whole new layer of meaning to all the songs.
MILEY CYRUS
I think Miley is an admirable example of combining expressive freedom and business strategy to gain attraction and broaden her market throughout all her different eras, having been in the industry for over a decade.
Jamie Hewlett
The best branding work I’ve ever seen it would be Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz. They were ahead of their time. It’s crazy to think they formed a virtual band in 1998. The band gives you insight into how much idols in the music industry are altered and fabricated to generate a mass following.
Lorde
Lorde – Pure Heroine (Album)When Pure Heroine came out in 2013 that was the first time I was mesmerized by a whole album. She was only 17 when it came out but I think that album was a shaping force in pop music during that time and paved the way for a lot of artists including Billie Eilish in the following years who also came to refine how pop music sounded at a very young age.
Archie Lee Coates IV
Architect and entrepreneur who founded PlayLab, Inc. He’s done phenomenal work. Whenever I’m in a creative block I’ll watch or even rewatch one of his lectures on youtube and reset my mind. Always reminds me not to think out of the box but to remember that there is no box.
